HXC floppy
Just bought a HXC floppy emulator from lotharek, the work really well on Newbrain with Expansion and Disk Controller.
http://lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=13
But there is a problem that can not transfer files from PC to NewBrain or vice versa.
That is the disc format Newbrain run which the HXC PC Software can not read.
But the whole HXC file can still be transferred to a PC.
A good way to backup Newbrain programs.
Greetings

Re: HXC floppy
It is no problem to zip compress the files and send them to Chris.
But I have no mail address to Chris.
Remember it is only HXC floppy drive emulator that can read them, the PC software available does not recognize the file.

Re: HXC floppy
This document http://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_driv … format.pdf has the file format of the HFE files.
So it is possible to read them and extract them to a windows directory.
If you send me an HFE file i could try to make an application to do just that.

Re: HXC floppy
It will be good with a PC program that can read and write to HXC files.
It will make it easier to move applications to / from NewBrain.
Has sent some image file that contains system files and everything else I have.
Hope you find out something

Re: HXC floppy
Ok i found a way to get the files out of the HFE file but only the 80 track that the NB Emulator support.
1. Download this file http://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_driv … r_soft.zip it's the floppy emulator.
2. run it and select load and pick the .HFE file you want (80 only)
3. click export and save the file as raw .img
4. copy that to the NB discs directory and change the extension to .dsk
5. create an empty directory named as the .dsk file i.e. if Test.DSK you create a dir named Test
6. Run the NB Emulator with disk support and from disk management select the empty dir you created. i.e. TEST
7. exit the emulator and your files should be in that directory
Probably works the other way round too meaning you can put file to a .dsk from the NB Emulator(this is done every time you select a Discs directory)
Then rename that file to .img and loaded from the HFE emulator (Load raw image) and then export it to .hfe file.
I ll check the 40 tracks too and maybe create an app to put and export files to a .img
P.S. The new beta version of the emulator has a few fixes for the cpm especially with large files >64Kb

This is just what I'm looking for, where can I download these .hfe files?
Thank you!
Kris.

Re: HXC floppy
I'm getting there and can ALMOST taste success. The floppies in the emulator can be saved and dragged out of the directory tree as raw images as cdesp says. However the Gotek (or HxC) still won't read them. Downloading the HxC emulator it lets you import drive images and export them as .hfe or .img which the Gotek seems happy with.
I can now boot the CPM image taken from the emulator on real hardware and the utilities etc work. Some of the games work from the CPMgames disk but frustratingly I've still not got around the 'change disk image and it's seen as read only' problem.
