Project Progress

Today the serial port subsystem is working both sending and receiving characters.
I should now implement some checking routines for errors during transmission and check for break.

Re: Project Progress

I am waiting for some CPLDs from XILINX to arrive any day now along with a programming cable i found on ebay (hope it works). The 44pin CPLDS should simplify the development.

Re: Project Progress

I just finished a pcb board that will make the new CPLDs usable also i made a RS232 board that will host the 16550 and the supporting components.
Photos of both will be up ASAP.

P.S. I have not tested either of them so will see wink

Re: Project Progress

Hi Chris...

Great to see you are making progress...unlike me sad

All NB stuff have been on hold the last months. Don't think I will get any thing done before winter comes.

Re: Project Progress

Hello Michael

Can you send me copies of the Danish User Group Magazines from 1983 - 1986 even if they are in Danish. Also have you published then on the NewBrain Website yet. Look forward to seeing them.

Best Regards

Colin Appleby

Re: Project Progress

After a loooong time i found what was wrong with my custom made EEPROM Writer. It was the 74HC299 chip which when replaced by a 74LS299 everything worked ok. I dont know if the chip is damaged or the fact that it was an HC series that made the fault but who cares anyway. I ll check the chip when i found the time.

Anyway i ll check my pcbs now CPU, Memory and LCD to see if they work ok.

Re: Project Progress

Good news today.
I checked my pcbs  and the results are perfect.
EEPROM Pcb Working
CPU Pcb working
Memory Pcb Working
LCD pcb Working

I will check the RS232 PCB and then i ll continue the development further
by trying to implement a video card or something or probably a PS/2 Keyboard which should be easier

Re: Project Progress

After almost a month finally the rs232 board is working. I now have two of them cause due to the problem which i have when receiving characters i made one more. Finally with a lot of help from the guys at www.hlektronika.gr the problem was found and corrected.

Next stop PS/2 keyboard interface.

Re: Project Progress

PS/2 Keyboard interface is almost done.
I had to use several 74LS mostly simple gates in order to make the Interface independent from the Z80 and enable the use of interrupt to tell the cpu that something is going on.
I ll upload the schematics when i ll finish.

Re: Project Progress

PS/2 Keyboard interface is working ok.

I also made a RS232 transfer program in ROM in order to be able to upload a program from the PC to the z80 RAM and execute it without having to remove the EEPROM and program it with my programmer.
So development is more rapid than before.smile

Re: Project Progress

PS/2 Keyboard interface using a CPLD Instead of several 74LSxxs is complete.
