COP420 Simulation.

Forgive me introduce myself, I'm ron. Retrowiki.es sysadmin, a Spanish website for fans to Retro and several of our members are also NewBrain fans like me.

So far we had no knowledge of another NewBrain emulator that was not that Chris has done, but the emulation using MESS will allow us to use the NewBrain opening new possibilities and options.

Since we learned that programmers already had built a MESS emulator NewBrain, this is not yet available to the difficulties to dump the ROM contents COP420 coprocessor.

You can track the origin thread:
http://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads. … #Post67833

A few days ago I decided to write an e-mail to Chris, just wondering about the COP420.

In MAME platform, there is already an emulation of COP420 and our main interest is to know to what extent we can help the NewBrain can begin to work on the MESS.

The developer who holds the emulation NewBrain invites us to write a simulator for NewBrain COP420, this is where we humbly ask for your help and advice.

I hope not my intention to disturb you, but I think it is very good and necessary for the entire community.

Just to add that there are multiple users in Spain we have and use the NewBrain and is a very special machine, very hard to find nowadays and highly valued.

Congrats on the site newbrain.info.

Re: COP420 Simulation.

Reading various threads about the COP420 emulation (mainly in MESS) I found some documents about testing the COP. It appears that the micro can be put in a 'test mode' where it outputs the internal program. The procedure is relatively complicate, and requires desoldering the COP from the NB (maybe someone have a broken NB that could be used?) but it seems doable. I don't know the state of the documents regarding copyright, but they were dowloadable. Hope that the information is useful.
Anyone interested?
